Turning adversity into opportunity.

Everyone have been affected by the pandemic in one way or another. Being stuck at home, without a proper workspace and a day-to-day routine appears to be the new norm. Fewer commissions for illustrators and artists has given birth to a new wave of viral art challenges and popular hashtags such as #quarantineartclub or #stayhomemakeart.

With Cards Against Corona, we encouraged creatives to interpret and visualize the pandemic in whatever way they see fit — covering anything fromtoilet paper hoarding, home quarantine, robot-ambulances, hand wash reminders, social distancing tools and angry virus creatures.

“The Quarantine Queen shows two different sides of dealing with the pandemic: to be productive, wearing make up and elegant clothes or relaxing, sipping wine in a comfy sweater. Both are good ways to deal with quarantine in my opinion! “

Julia Hanke
— Creator of Queen of Clubs

“At first I wanted to draw a transformer cop car with police officers in hazmat suits. I quickly realized that an ambulance would be a much better fit in terms of color and all the medics putting in a great effort under this pandemic. The ace is a strong card and I wanted to picture that accurately.”

Krzysztof Nowak
— Creator of Ace of Diamonds

“The idea behind my illustration was to channel who we are as humans and what we want to come out of this pandemic. What really matters to us. Relationships, working together and supporting each other to get through. I like the idea of using a really cheery and vibrant style because I think we all need a little happiness at this current time — and a reminder of how wonderful the world that we live in is.”

Jasmine Floyd
— Creator of Six of Clubs

The word spread on social media.

No marketing budget was spent on this project. Instead, the illustrators shared their cards across social media, and the word of Cards Against Corona traveled organically through their collective effort.
